Meet Dr. Freeman

Dr. James (Jim) Freeman originally hails from Towson, Maryland. He received his baccalaureate in biology from Gettysburg College in 1991. He then worked for a period of time as a senior research assistant at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the department of pulmonary medicine. He received his Master of Science in molecular immunology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1996. He graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Dental Surgery in 2000. During his time in dental school, he received a United States Army scholarship through the Health Professions Scholarship Program, and after graduation entered active duty service as a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps.

 Dr. Freeman completed the United States Army 1-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry through the US Army DENTAC in Baumholder, Germany in 2001. After this time, he served as a field dentist with the 523rd Medical Company in Giebelstadt, Germany until 2004 when he was selected to begin his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After receiving his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2008, Dr. Freeman served as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Forensic Odontology at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri until 2012 when he, his wife, Meg, and his three sons moved to Vermont.

During his “free time” Dr. Freeman serves as an Assistant Scout Master for BSA Troop 692 in Williston. After 25 years as a member of the National Ski Patrol System Jim retired and is currently an alumni member.  Jim is also really good at making saw dust from perfectly good lumber in his woodshop.

Dr. Freeman is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). He currently serves as the Vermont representative for the AAOMS House of Delegates. He is also a Member of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Freeman’s clinical interests include dento-alveolar surgery, dental implants and bone grafting.
